***Starting with the Texas race on April 1st, we will be going back to the normal 1 session and will not be following the procedure on this page.***
Beginning Monday February 25th at Atlanta Motor Speedway (and moving forward), we will be hosting a qualifying session separate from the race session. This will give everyone an equal chance to qualify their way into the races.
The qualifying session will open for practice at our regular time of 7:30 pm ET. Qualifying will be at the normal time of 9:20 pm ET as well.
After qualifying is over at 9:25 pm ET, that session will CLOSE and another will open for the race at 9:35 pm ET. The ten minute gap is to account for the time it will take an admin to setup the new session with the grid set from qualifying and any hiccups that might occur. That session will have a 10 min warmup to give drivers time to get into the race session and the race will grid at 9:45 pm ET.
We realize that this will push the race start time back 20 mins. We hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone and apologize if it does. We just feel this is the best way to insure everyone gets the best and fair opportunity to race.
If we have 2 straight weeks of less than 40 drivers, we will revert back to having everything in one session. This is because, generally speaking, after a few races into the season, the field size tends to shrink. Obviously, we want you all to be here and be able to make it every race. But sadly, that doesn't always happen. Going back would also put us back to our regular race start time.
Also, drivers who finished inside the top 10 in the 2018 AMS Cup Series point standings will have locked in positions to each race, given they make a qualifying attempt. (Those top 10 should not have a problem qualifying in the top 43, BUT if any of them do have a problem during qualifying, since they are locked in, it would bump out 43rd etc)
TL:DR
- Qualifying Rooms
- Separate from race room
- Practice still from 7:30 pm to 9:20 pm ET.
- Qualifying still at 9:20 pm ET.
- After qualifying, race room will open at 9:35 pm ET.
- 10 min warmup.
- Grid at 9:45 pm ET.
- Green flag at approx. 9:46 ET.
- 2 straight weeks of less than 40 drivers, we will go back to old way of practice, qualifying and race all in one session.
- Top 10 in 2018 AMS Cup Series Points Standings have locked in positions to each race as long as they make a qualifying attempt.
The tradeoff for doing it this way is that the race session will have to be created using the web UI and not the BETA UI, which means that we cannot choose a specific time-of-day (ToD) for the race start.
For example, the Atlanta race will be set to afternoon x1 (ToD).
Since we must use that for the race session, we will also use that for the practice/qualifying session.
All sessions will still be listed under "league sessions".
**The procedures etc listed above will supersede other areas of the website until further notice.**
